It should provide a work summary, status, and progress, mentioning any milestones or risk factors. The highlight report should not exceed three pages, including references.

General Preparation

Manuscript

The manuscript must be typed in Microsoft Word for Windows, A4 (21 cm x 29.7 cm), Times New Roman font, double space, size 12, with 2.5 cm margins to the left and right, to the top and bottom and also to the header and footer.

The cover letter should also briefly explain why the paper's content is significant, placing the findings in the context of existing work and why it fits the Journal's scope.

Graphical Abstract (optional)

Graphical Abstract is an image that appears alongside the text abstract in the Table of Contents. In addition to summarizing the content, it should depict the topic of the article in an attention-grabbing manner. It should be a high-quality illustration or diagram in any of the following formats: PNG, JPEG, EPS, SVG, PSD, or AI. Any text in the graphical abstract should be clear and easy to read, using one of the following fonts: Times, Arial, Courier, Helvetica, Ubuntu, or Calibri.

Free format (optional)

If the authors prefer not to use the Microsoft Word template (download) to prepare the manuscript, they can use a generally available font such as Times New Roman, font size 12, single spacing, A4 paper, and 2.5 cm margins on all sides. Please try to avoid symbol font for special characters. Use American English spelling and italics font for emphasis. Use the automatic page numbering function to number the pages. Do not use more than three levels of displayed headings.

Manuscript Preparation

Research manuscripts should comprise the following:

  1. Front matter: Title, Author list, Affiliations, Abstract, Keywords.
  2. Research manuscript sections: Introduction, Results, Discussion, Conclusions (optional), Materials and Methods, Patents.
  3. Back matter: Supplementary Materials, Acknowledgments, Author Contributions, Conflicts of Interest, References.

 Authors' Information

The corresponding author should ensure that the names, affiliations, complete addresses (i.e., institution, department, city, postal code, and country), and the 16-digit ORCID of the authors (If available) are correct. For (temporarily) unaffiliated authors, we will only capture their city and country of residence, not their e-mail address, unless specifically requested. An active e-mail address of the corresponding author is required.

Abstract and keywords

The abstract should be clear in itself and not contain more than 250 words. No references in the abstract and abbreviation should be avoided if they are not given in full on first use. A maximum of 5 to 6 keywords can be used for indexing purposes and should be lowercase and separated by a comma.

Figures, Schemes and Tables

Egypt Scholars Journal will not artificially enhance the quality or redraw the results presented in the figures. Authors, therefore, should supply figures that are suitable for publication. Figures that lack the quality standard (see below) will not be considered for publication. File for Figures and Schemes must be provided during submission in a single zip archive and at a sufficiently high resolution (minimum 1000 pixels width/height, or a resolution of 300 dpi or higher). Common formats, either in black and white or in colors, are accepted; however, TIFF, JPEG, EPS, and PDF are preferred. All Figures, Schemes, and Tables should be inserted into the main text close to their first citation and must be numbered following their number of appearances (Figure 1, Scheme I, Figure 2, Scheme II, Table 1, etc.). Abbreviations should be avoided if it is not necessary. All Figures, Schemes and Tables should have a short explanatory title and caption. All table columns should have a descriptive heading. Smaller fonts may be used to facilitate the copy-editing of larger tables, but no less than 8 pt. in size. Authors should use the Table option of Microsoft Word to create tables.

Abbreviations and Equations

The abbreviation should be defined in parentheses the first time they appear in the abstract, main text, and figure or table captions and used consistently after that. Please use either the Microsoft Equation Editor or the MathType add-on for equations. Ensure that they can be editable by the editorial office and not appear in a picture format. Subscripts and superscripts should be clear

Footnotes

Footnotes should be avoided. If necessary, they should be numbered in the text, indicated by superscript numbers.

Author Contributions

Each author is expected to have made substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data; or have drafted the work or substantively revised it. A brief description of the individual contributions must be provided. Conceptualization: [full name], …; Methodology: [full name], …; Formal analysis and investigation: [full name], …; Writing - original draft preparation: [full name, …]; Writing - reviewing and editing: [full name], …; Funding acquisition: [full name], …; Resources: [full name], …; Supervision: [full name], ….... . All authors must disclose all relationships or interests that could inappropriately influence or bias their work. Examples of competing interests may include either financial interests (such as membership, employment, consultancies, stocks/shares ownership, honoraria, grants or other funding, paid expert testimonies, and patent-licensing arrangements) or non-financial interests (such as personal or professional relationships, affiliations, personal beliefs). Appropriate disclosure in the manuscript (separate section "Conflicts of Interest" inserted just before the reference list) should reflect all the potential conflicts of interest. If no conflicts exist, the authors should state: "The authors declare no conflicts of interest."

Reference style

References must be numbered in order of appearance in the text (including table captions and figure legends) and listed individually at the end of the manuscript. Your references may be in any style, and you use consistent formatting throughout. It is essential to include author(s) name(s), Journal or book title, article or chapter title (where required), year of publication, volume and issue (where appropriate) and pagination. When your manuscript reaches the revision stage, you will be requested to format the manuscript according to the journal guidelines.

References included in the manuscript must be already been published. Non-published work or data should not be cited in the reference list but may be mentioned in the text as (unpublished data) or (Initials + Family name, personal communications). Accepted work but not yet published (in press or production phase) should be referred to as 'in press.' If possible, provide a DOI for these accepted manuscripts. Reference management tools such as EndNote, Zotero, Mendeley, Reference Manager are recommended to use during manuscript preparation. Citations and references in the supplementary files are permitted, provided they appear in the main text and the reference list.

Citations and References in Supplementary files are permitted, provided they also appear in the reference list of the main text.

Ethics

Plagiarism

Plagiarism includes copying text, ideas, images, or data from another source, even from your own publications, without giving any credit to the original source. Reusing text copied from another source must be between quotes and the original source must be cited. If a study's design or the manuscript's structure or language has been inspired by previous works, these works must be explicitly cited. The manuscript may be rejected if plagiarism is detected during the peer review process. We may publish a correction or retract the paper if plagiarism is detected after publication.

Citation Policy

Authors should not violate the citation policy by ensuring that the source of any taken material is clearly cited and the appropriate permission is obtained (if necessary). Therefore, we encourage the author to avoid

  1. Irrelevant, excessive self-citation of their own work.
  2. References from other publications without reading the cited work
  3. Preferentially cite their own or their friends, peers, or institution's publications
  4. Citing advertisements or advertorial material.

Authorship

  1. Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work
  2. Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content
  3. Final approval of the version to be published
  4. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Those who contributed to the work but do not qualify for authorship should be listed in the acknowledgments. Any change to the author list should be approved by all authors, including any who have been removed from the list. The corresponding author should act as a point of contact between the editor and the other authors, keep co-authors informed, and involve them in major decisions about the publication. Changes of authorship by adding or deleting authors, and/or changes in Corresponding Author, and/or changes in the sequence of the authors are not accepted after manuscript acceptance.

Publication procedure and decisions

Editorial Procedures and Peer-Review

All submitted manuscripts will be checked by a Section Editor together with other Editors to determine whether they are properly prepared and whether they follow the ethical policies of the Journal. No judgment on the potential impact of the work will be made at this stage. Manuscripts that do not fit the Journal's ethics policy or do not meet the Journal's standards will be rejected before peer review. Reject decisions at this stage will be verified by the Editor-in-Chief. After this stage, an editor will be assigned and responsible for the peer-review process, including assigning at least three independent experts as reviewers. The Egypt Scholars journal follows a double-blind reviewing procedure. The raised comments by the reviewers are confidential and will only be disclosed with the express agreement of the reviewer. To avoid any conflict of interest, selected reviewers should not have published with any co-authors during the past five years. They should not currently work or collaborate with any of the institutions of the co-authors of the submitted manuscript.

Confidentiality

Authors should treat all communication with the Journal as confidential, which includes correspondence with direct representatives from the Journal, such as Editors-in-Chief and/or Handling Editors and reviewers' reports, unless explicit consent has been received to share information.

Journal Decision and Revision

The acceptance of the manuscript depends on the revisions. The author needs to provide a point-by-point response or rebuttal if some of the reviewer's comments cannot be revised. Where the authors disagree with a reviewer, they must provide a clear response.

  1. Accept in the present form: The paper is suitable for publication.
  2. Minor Revisions:  The paper is, in principle, accepted after revision based on the reviewer's comments. Authors are given less than one week for minor revisions.
  3. Major Revisions: Authors will be asked to resubmit the revised paper within a suitable time frame, and the revised version will be returned to the reviewer for further comments.
  4. Reject: The article has serious flaws and/or makes no original significant contribution. No offer of resubmission to the Journal is provided.

After Acceptance

The accepted articles will be exported to production to undergo typesetting. Once typesetting is complete, the corresponding author will receive a link asking him to confirm the names and affiliations. Once completed, the article will be processed, and the corresponding author will receive the proofs.

Copyright and license term – CC BY

Accepted articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution License. For more information, authors are advised to visit https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

English Language Editing

English language should be of sufficient quality to be understood. If you need help with writing in English, you should consider the following:

  1. Asking a colleague who is a native English speaker to review your manuscript for clarity.
  2. Visiting the English language tutorial, which covers the common mistakes when writing in English.
  3. Attending special courses such as Scientific Writing that are provided by some universities or private institutes.

Please, note that the Egypt Scholars Journal does not offer any kind of professional language editing service.
